Fantasy football: fun for all

Fantasy football: fun for all

Jack Fehrs, Staff Writer

jackTwo weeks ago, NFL and college football returned and with them came fantasy football. For those who do not know,

“Fantasy football puts a team in the fan’s hands and turns them into “professional” NFL team owners, general managers and coaches.”

— Jack Fehrs

Millions of people look forward to fantasy football every year. It gives friends something to talk about and gives the NFL football season a new meaning. I was one of the millions looking forward to the football season this year and started a league with my five other friends. Fantasy football is one of the best ways football fans can enjoy the NFL season and know what is going on around the league. It is a great way to stay up to date on injured and up and coming players from the NFL and it is something that interrupts the monotony of school and daily life.

Many people may think that fantasy football is only for football fans. This is totally wrong. Anyone can enjoy fantasy football because of the social aspects of the game. Getting together at the beginning of the season to draft players and throw out player predictions for the oncoming season can be one of the most fun things you do during the summer. However, the fun doesn’t end there. Week by week there is trash to be talked, trades to be made and waivers to be placed. Haggling and bartering for players and making a successful trade is one of the most gratifying  accomplishments in fantasy football. When a player you have picked up off the waiver wire has a big game, mixed feelings of accomplishment and pride brew together to create a feeling like the owner has never had before.
