Why the ‘Bachelor’ should be cancelled

Why the ‘Bachelor’ should be cancelled

Summer Ericson, Staff Writer

The entertainment business is meant to do exactly that, entertain. This business certainly lives up to its name, coming out with shows about virtually every topic. Producers have to considering that the average American spends at least five hours a day watching TV. Some of these shows have gone past the definition of “entertaining” and into the category of just plain stupid.

“The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” first aired in 2002. The main storyline is basically like a game. On each season, there is a man or woman who is introduced to about 20 women, or 20 men if it is the “Bachelorette”. These women/men stay in the same house for the course of the show and compete for the bachelor’s love. The bachelor/bachelorette goes on individual and group dates with the men or women and continuously sends two of them home each week. The season finale ultimately could end with the man or woman getting engaged. A new season is currently airing, being its 21st season.

The current season of “The Bachelor,” features Nick Viall. Notice the woman dressed as a shark in the left back.

This is quite confusing to me. Not only that this show has lasted for 21 seasons, but the whole explanation and idea of the show. I’m not going to lie, I have watched some of the seasons and kept up with the drama going on, but I have just now realized how annoying the show really is. Love is not putting 20 pretty women in the same room as you and picking the one you “love” the most. These people have only known each other for a couple of weeks and have not even been in a real relationship situation. They have been “dating” 20 other men or women at the same time. Honestly, this show just disgraces dating for this day and age. Besides being a totally untrue portrayal of what finding your significant other is like, the constant drama between the competing men/women is unbelievable. It’s the same cat fights every time. One girl is getting too much attention and that makes the others mad. Blah blah blah.

In the 20th season of “The Bachelor,” a pair of twins were included. The two sisters fought for their chance at love, both dating the same man at once.

The whole storyline to this unrealistic show does not make sense, and almost all of the couples that have come out of the show have broken up. All that drama for nothing. I will just stick to watching shows like “Stranger Things” and “Orange is the New Black,” to avoid the immensely immature and irritating plot.
