A gap in the head football coach position in the midst of the 2016 football season left the players in a confused, unbalanced state. Brian Bechard, former assistant coach, stepped up in the middle of season to fill the spot and worked with the football players to push through the change. Recently, the LHS administration hired a new head football coach, Jared Fredenburg.

The Sioux Falls area is full of outstanding coaches and many applied for the position. The committee at LHS were more than impressed with the quality of coaches and teachers that aspired to be the next head football coach of LHS.

“The committee looked at about two dozen quality applications and decided to interview five,” said LHS athletic director Joey Struwe. “It’s always nice when you have such good candidates to choose from.”

Fredenburg, the former defensive coordinator at RHS, will also teach physical education at LHS next school year. The football program has everything to gain and nothing to lose with the new hire.

“Mr. Fredenburg brings a lot of energy, knowledge and experience to the LHS football program,” said Struwe. “We feel like Coach Fredenburg will be able to build upon an already strong LHS program and continue our tradition of pride and excellence.”

The students and staff of LHS are more than excited to welcome the coach and physical education teacher to our school. Fredenburg is expected to bring more great things to LHS.
