LHS Speech teams reach success at Rushmore District Tournament

Congratulations to the Lincoln Speech and Debate teams for their performance this weekend at the Rushmore District Tournament. As a combined squad, Lincoln was the district team champions. Both groups have qualified students to compete at the National Tournament in Fort Lauderdale.

The Interp team qualified two student to Nationals with Gage Gramlick getting first in Original oratory and Noah Stoebner taking 1st in Humorous Interp. The speech team also had Gage Gramlick and Ramsey Folkerts take 5th in Duo Interp and Noah Stoebner take 7th in informative speaking.

On the Debate side, the Debate team won the tournament sweepstakes for Debate. Debate will be sending 4 students to Nationals. Qualifiers were David Mickelson and Dakota Folkerts second in policy debate. Katie Osmundson Second in Domestic Extemp and Rachel Overstreet second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Other top finishers for the debate team were:
Jasmyn Reiff and Sophia Boyt were 3rd in Policy Debate
Jonathan Nash and Ivan Benitez were 5th in policy debate.
Zindeh Scere – 4th in Original oratory and 4th In LD Debate
Ian Ward 4th in Informative speaking
Corrin Gillespie 6th in Domestic Extemp
Maximilian Peters 4th in International Extemp

The debate team will be competing at the State Tournament in 2 weeks. Good luck to them.
