The week had gotten off to a rough start. Monday drudged along, unrelentlessly reminding me of the long five days ahead. However on Tuesday, came a quick turn around in my week.

In my AP English class we are creating an essay based off an interview with someone we consider to be successful. Naturally, I chose Cardi B. Cardi B. was a stripper in the Bronx for a long time before she realized her full potential; she had a knack for “spittin’ bars.”

Cardi B. has created history for black women all over the world. Her single “Bodak Yellow” hit the top spot on music charts, making her the first solo female artist to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in over 20 years. As if that was not enough, Cardi now has become the first ever rapper to have three Hot 100 singles in the top 10 simultaneously. These songs include, “Bodak Yellow,” “Motosport” and “No Limit”.

Cardi B., known to her family as Belcalis Almanzar, grew up in the Bronx, NY. She began stripping to make money at the age of 19 to make money for college after being fired from a supermarket. Eventually, Cardi B. dropped out of college and continued stripping. She also turned to social media to create a bolder presence. Cardi B.’s success skyrocketed after her iconic Vines (R.I.P) and Instagram posts.

Ms. (soon to be Mrs.) B. began appearing on “Love & Hip Hop: New York” from 2015 to 2017. Finally in 2017 she was signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and the rest is history.

Anyway, today I embarked on a hunt to find Cardi B.’s contact info so I could ask her a few questions about her unquestionable success. I direct messaged her on both Twitter and Instagram only to find out that I was dming fake accounts. When hope was almost lost, I threw up a prayer and turned to the world wide web for her number. Much to my surprise, and after much digging, I found Cardi B.’s Facebook page with her phone number. Immediately I dialed and almost cried when I heard her voice on the other line, even though it went to voicemail I heard that bubbly, Bronx voice and I was in heaven. I shot her a quick text and now I am awaiting her response.

Ellen, if you are reading this, please bring me on your show so I can meet Cardi B.
