Rival Denim

  • What made you interested in fashion and selling clothing to other people?

My friend and I started selling jeans for fun and to just have a little project. It’s really exciting to collaborate and to see our visions come to life!

  • Are you planning to use your love of fashion in the future?

Yes, I do! As of right now, I plan on majoring in Apparel and Merchandising, I think it would be amazing to turn one of my passions into a career.

  • What is your thrifting “business” called and where can people find it?

It’s called Rival Denim, you can check it out on Instagram!

  • What inspired you to make this small “business”?

Thrifting is a sustainable way to shop which is one of the reasons my friend and I were inspired to make Rival Denim. To find something that has already been worn and give it new life is a really rewarding process; rather than keeping the love of thrifting and remaking clothing to ourselves, we decided to share it with our community.

  • What type of clothing do you sell?

We mostly sell denim but every now and then we have other thrifted items for both men and women.

  • How do you go about finding the clothing you sell?

We go to consignment stores in Sioux Falls and some people donate their items to us!

  • What is different about buying clothing from you, rather than just going and thrifting it for yourself?

We find really good quality products and also add unique features to the denim, whether it’s colored stitching, patches, changing the wash of the jeans, etc. We have found great clothing for people wanting for nice and unique items, specifically denim.

  • Have you seen a lot of business/what are your goals?

There has been some good business, we have gotten really good support from friends and family. One goal is to have a larger platform and to reach a larger audience.

  • Is it easy to find clothing to sell?

It isn’t super difficult but finding good quality items definitely takes patience. We spend a lot of time sifting through stores in search of items that fit our “look” and that we think other people will like.

  • What is the hardest part of having a small “business”?

Getting started and getting the word out has been the most difficult part of the process. It’s all still new to us and we are learning along the way!

  • How do you go about actually selling your clothing? How do you use social media or other platforms to do this?

We post a few pictures of each pair of jeans on Instagram to show the details and how they fit and if people are interested in something they DM us. Social media has allowed us to get the word out about our projects and to share our work.
