“Judas and the Black Messiah”

Set in late-1960s Chicago, this film tells of the Black Panther Party and the true betrayal that took place. William O’Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) is offered a plea deal by the FBI in exchange for information about the Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya). While dramatized, the plot still follows real events, piquing the audience’s interest through the eyes of characters based on real people. Released in early 2021, “Judas and the Black Messiah” was up for many awards in the 2021 awards season, including six Oscars. It ended up winning two Oscars, along with countless other achievements, proving its importance within the 2021 film scene along with biopic history.
