Beating boredom this holiday season

During the holidays, students at LHS have 12 glorious days to spend with family and friends, but boredom can creep into their holiday season and ruin a planned-out holiday break. Finding activities to occupy time can be tricky, but here is a perfect list of festive activities to squash boredom this holiday season.

1) Festive treats

Baking during the holiday season is a great way to spend some extra free time. Baking some festive treats is a relaxing activity and can be done with friends and family. Making the sweet dish from a box or even from scratch will be perfect for a holiday party or a friends get-together.

2) Watching Christmas movies

Classic Christmas movies are a holiday staple for most households. Finding the perfect pair of pajamas and consuming some holiday sweets pair perfectly with the films. Watching these classics is relaxing and enjoyable when around loved ones. These movies are almost guaranteed to end the season’s boredom.

3) Winter Carnival

In the midst of February’s cold weather, Sioux Falls hosts a nine day long carnival which helps support The Boys and Girls Club. Within these nine days you can find it packed with fun activities open to the public and great for all ages. Some activities from the year prior include people and pets downtown stroll, fat tire bike races, zumba with GreatLIFE and laser tubing at Great Bear. This fun-filled schedule is perfect for enjoying the last bit of the winter season.

4) Winter Wonderland at Falls Park

Christmas lights are a big part of the holiday season, so being able to drive around Falls Park and admire the twinkling Christmas lights is the perfect way to kick off this Christmas season. Every year Falls Park sets up their Winter Wonderland, a gigantic light display that trails around the entirety of the park. Some of the animatronics connect to holiday music to correlate with a music station making the display more interactive with its audience.

5) Great Bear

Skiing and snowboarding can entertain all ages bringing them fun memories for years to come. Great Bear is the perfect place for beginners all the way to experts with all of the amenities they can offer. Great Bear has 14 trails ranging from simple to complex as well as a bunny hill for beginners. They also offer a separate hill for everybody to enjoy winter sledding. Skiing and snowboarding are a perfect way to terminate one’s boredom while being able to get outside and enjoy the winter scenery.
