Baking day has been a tradition in my mom’s extended family for the past 39 years. In 1985, my mom’s paternal grandmother and all of the girls and women in the family met at my great grandmother’s house to spend an entire day baking. It has now evolved into a tradition where each family chooses a dessert to make, then we meet at a house to do a dessert exchange. On the day of the exchange, all of the kids in the family help out by decorating sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies, while some of the more experienced kids and adults help roll krumkake, which is a type of Norwegian cookie. For the past couple of years, my immediate family has made Peanut Butter Blossoms, which are easy to make and taste delightful.
