No-Shave November: female edition

Sidney Brower, Staff Writer

For years now, November has been classified as the month to relax on shaving and let it all grow out. Men take advantage and allow all of their facial hair to reach its full potential. Because of this, most people would consider this informal event, of No-Shave November, to be participated by only males. In reality some females want to take a break too.

November is one of the beginning months of our freezing South Dakota winter. This means women trade in their shorts and crops for jeans and leggings. In my opinion, if your legs are covered, then what is the point in shaving when no one will even see?

As a female myself, I find it very difficult to find enough time to spend shaving every week in order to meet normal standards. Some women may disagree and enjoy or need to stay looking fresh often, but I believe a majority of females would agree that shaving is an extremely tedious and time-consuming activity that they would enjoy to take a break from for awhile.

Women in general are expected to be more primed and suitable than men on a daily basis. Also, being a male you only have to shave your face, but for girls they have to do both their legs and underarms. A recent study reported that it takes on average 15 minutes for a women to shave, not including their other priorities while showering. This study also says that a normal woman will shave one to two times a week. If you calculate the math in a year, one woman will spend close to 26 hours on shaving alone.

If questioned on whether women should have to shave all year round most men would immediately reply, yes. Why is it fair for men to be carefree for an entire month, but not women?

Women need to take a stand this winter and embrace themselves and their choices.
