Senior skip day; when senioritis hits an all-time high

Sydney Rosinsky, Social Media Coordinator/ Op Ed

The infamous senior skip day. The best unofficial, official holiday of the school year. Every year, the Monday after Prom weekend is the day when Seniors in the Sioux Falls School District celebrate.

While this is the last event to look forward to before graduation, not all seniors participate. AP tests are only a week away, so for some, me included, skipping an entire day would come with unwanted stress and anxiety. I see senior skip day as almost pointless in the sense that after I finish my AP tests, I can have my own senior skip day virtually whenever I please. I feel that since I have not yet taken my finals, it is imperative to attend school on this day.

As for those seniors who did decide to skip, kudos to you. I am envious of the fact that you seniors get to cuddle up in bed all day, watch Netlix and binge eat. At this point in the year, the senioritis has obviously hit its peak and most of the seniors are “soooo over high school.”

For those seniors who decided to participate, but had their parents call them out… you’re lame. The whole point is to skip and get the token reward of looking on Infinite Campus and seeing that yellow highlight on April 24. If you look and see green, you’re a lame and cannot brag about celebrating the unofficial, official holiday.

To next year’s class of seniors, only participate in this special day if it really will not affect your AP tests, or GPA. Otherwise, suck it up and come to school… Or just skip a few class
