Opportunities to show school spirit arise as school year comes to a close
May 17, 2016
As the 2015-16 school year comes to a close, LHS has a couple of last opportunities for students to show their school pride and celebrate the past nine months. The Patriot Pride assembly and Homegoing are good events for students to participate in, put together by the Patriot Pride Committee and Student Council.
At the end of each school year, the LHS Patriot Pride Committee hosts the Patriot Pride pep assembly to sum up the year and send students into summer on a good note. The assembly will take place this Thursday in the main gym. There, outstanding senior students will be given awards for their academic achievements, teachers will give “Pat on the Back” awards to students they feel have worked hard in their classes and there will be a slide show to review all kinds of events that took place throughout the school year. The slideshow consists of pictures submitted by students to remind everyone of all of the accomplishments that students in the band, athletic teams and everything else achieved this year. The seniors who have taken a certain amount of AP classes or have a certain GPA will also be awarded for their efforts during high school.
As for Homegoing, it starts on May 23 and will last throughout the week. Students are encouraged to show their school spirit by dressing up according to the days, as well as to participate in the annual bean bag tournament held by Student Council on Thurs. of that week. The dress up days include:
- Monday: Class Color Day- Freshmen in red, sophomores in white, juniors in blue, seniors in black
- Tuesday: Stripe Day
- Wednesday: USA Day
- Thursday: Jersey Day
- Friday: Pajama Pant Day
The final days of the school year are upon us, and with events like Patriot Pride assembly and Homegoing, they are sure to fly by.
