Corey Fichter has made quite a statement this year on the LHS football team. With Fichter being the running back for LHS, he is found carrying the ball often on offense. So far this season he has 57 carries, 295 rush yards, 5.18 yards per carry, three touchdowns and five receptions for 50 yards. With those statistics it is easy to see that Fichter has been leading this LHS team on offense and giving them the spark that they have needed.

Aside from being a leader on the field on game days, assistant football coach and LHS teacher, Ken Doyle, has only positive things to say about how Fichter leads in other aspects.

“Corey brings somewhat of a blue-collar mentality to our team,” said Doyle. “He brings effort and toughness to practice each and every day.”

Fichter has not just shown athletic ability but an even tougher strength to achieve: mental toughness. It has been said that 90 percent of the performance in sports is mental, a large portion that does not include any physical talent. With as many jobs as he has on the team it could get tough at times to stay positive, but Fichter’s psychological strength is to be honored more than anything else.

“I believe his mentality influences other players on the team,” said Doyle. “He knows his role and he does the best he can at his particular jobs. Corey really wears many hats on our team. He carries the ball, catches the ball, blocks and is the team’s long snapper on our punt and field goal units.”
