Each week at LHS a student is chosen by a teacher to be the Student of the Week.  This honor is given based on a student’s leadership qualities, kind habits and overall positive attitude. Within the English department, Meghan Anderson-Finch chose Kavina Berry for this week.

Berry is currently a senior at LHS and she enjoys theater and English. She loves books and enjoys reading in her free time. The reasoning for being chosen this week is because she possesses a variety of great qualities. She is seen as an excellent student and also as an overall great person as well.

“She is resourceful and caring,” said Nelson. “She goes out of her way to help other people.”

Berry is also involved as a student mentor which allowed Nelson to notice how much she cares about others and how she is talented in helping them.

“She makes sure as a student mentor that other people understand things and she always  models things really well,” said Nelson.

Her bubbly personality and warm smile is noticeable immediately which helps her to stand out from the rest. Kavina has a character that Nelson clearly appreciates having around.

“She is creative, she laughs all of the time and she has a great sense of humor.” said Nelson.

Berry plans to go to Augustana University after she graduates this year and is interested in studying either theater or English. Based on her strong, fun character, it is easy to assume Berry will have the same special impact in college that she has had here in LHS.
