Boys Cross Country

The LHS boys Cross Country team had an impressive run at state on Saturday, no pun intended.

Within one day, five state titles were earned by LHS. These included two individual titles, boys title, girls title and the overall combined title. One team achieving all of these has never been seen in the LHS sports history.   Captain of the boys team, senior Gabe Peters, gained a personal title with an incredible time of 16:05.73. This marks his second year in a row. The second finisher for LHS came from Jack Elliot at 5th place and there were four more spots placed before 12th.

Although the end result was perfect for the team on Saturday, the weather conditions were not.

“The conditions weren’t perfect, it was a little windy and that affected the times a little bit, but the places went about as good as they could have,” said Peters. Despite these factors, the boys pushed through and kept their focus.

Many fall athletic seasons end along with their state tournament. With cross country, that is not the case. The runners will attend and run in the Nike Cross Regionals in November here in Sioux Falls. This will be another chance for LHS to prove their talents while racing new competition from a variety of states in the region. Although they just gained a tremendous victory, they can not quite relax yet. Training and practice will continue in order to prepare for Nike where it is easy to assume they will do just as well.
