Your vote matters

Molly McIntyre, Staff Writer

With the presidential election two weeks away, most voters know whether they are voting for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. However, there are a select few who have decided that their vote does not matter and they will not participate in this year’s election. But I’m here to urge you that your voice does matter, and this election is not the one to sit back. Make your voice heard.

A week ago, I turned 18. This means that I can spend more on lottery tickets than I will end up winning, I can start a disgusting habit with cigarettes and most importantly I can vote.

If you are able to, I advise you to join me.

I’m not going to tell you who to vote for, but I will follow in the footsteps of First Lady Michelle Obama. On Oct. 13, Obama delivered an extremely devastating speech in New Hampshire about claims that Trump has sexually assaulted and disrespected a handful of women. Obama is trying to reach out to Americans to convey that Trump is dangerous. A man who can say such disrespectful things about a women should not be president.

This is not normal. This is not politics as usual,” said Obama. “This is disgraceful. It is intolerable. And it doesn’t matter what party you belong to — Democrat, Republican, Independent — no woman deserves to be treated this way. None of us deserve this kind of abuse.”

Regardless or not if these sexual assault charges are true, there are numerous records of Trump saying disgusting things about women. And it is not just women. Trump has made racist comments about various minorities, he has made fun of the disabled and so much more it would take me weeks to write it all down.

Think about it. Do you want this man to become president? Do you want someone to speak about your daughters or sisters like this? Do not let him gain anymore power than he

already has.

Your voice matters. Your voice has always mattered. Your voice will never stop mattering. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. You need to use your voice and get out there. We as a nation need to stop Trump.

“Either Hillary Clinton or her opponent will be elected president this year,” said Obama. “And if you vote for someone other than Hillary, or if you don’t vote at all, then you are helping to elect her opponent. And just think about how you will feel if that happens.”
