LHS volleyball standout and Nebraska commit, Anezka Szabo, has helped the LHS volleyball program make major strides and improvements, as they won their first play in game on Monday night against Yankton, and won their first district game on Tuesday night against 1 seed Harrisburg. Getting closer to the state tournament, it is apparent that Szabo has the ability to help her team make a run this year. With the momentum of the huge win on Tuesday night, things are looking up for the LHS volleyball team.

Third year coach Emily Palmer is helping shape the program with the talent that she has, coming from Szabo and other players on the team.

“Anezka has lead our team in kills, blocks and aces several times throughout the season,” said Palmer. “When she plays well, she not only scores points for us, but also helps our other hitters get going and lifts the overall level of play.”

With major stat lines this season, Szabo has helped carry the team to more success than they have had in the past few years.

Anezka has 393 kills in her senior season alone, along with 285 digs, 71 blocks and 46 aces,” said Palmer.

Being a leader both during games and off the court is important for a senior role model. Someone to look up to is important to have on a team, and when they are a good influence it lifts the team up even more.

“Anezka contributes to her team both on and off the court,” said Palmer. “She tends to be the one who keeps things steady. When things aren’t going well, she is great about refocusing the team, having everybody take a deep breath and staying calm. She has high expectations of her teammates and is great about holding them and herself accountable.”
