This year, various new clubs have been started at LHS. One of the newest clubs that have been started and also the club of the week is Puppy Club. Anyone who has a love for puppies, dogs and everything in between should definitely consider joining. Senior co-founders Sofia Haan and Raeann VanDrongelen are excited about what puppy club can offer to its members.

“Raeann and I started the club mostly as a joke one day and then decided to actually make it a club,” said Haan. “We also wanted to have ‘created a club’ on our college applications.”

Despite from what some may think, this club is not just about playing with cute puppies, discussing who’s dog is better and watching videos. Members actually plan on helping out the community through volunteer work… along with the other three things mentioned.

“Our last meeting was just a meet and greet,” said Haan. “In the future we are hoping to have a monthly volunteer time at the Humane Society, organize fundraisers for them and bring dogs in to visit club members.”

Haan and Vandrongelen both hope to get the word out about their club so more LHS students can participate in helping out the Humane Society, and also help care for the adorable, furry animals. Also, they provide free puppy chow and who does not love the taste of puppy chow?

“We actually had a really good crowd for our first meeting,” said Haan. “I think it was because everyone loves dogs and we offered free food.”

Haan and Vandrongelen expect more and more people to show up each week to their club share their love of dogs with everyone. Puppy Club will meet on Thursdays after school at 3:25 p.m. in Amanda Nelson’s room, A134.
