Go rogue this Dec. 16th

Jack Fehrs, Staff Writer

On the 16th of this month, the legend continues. The much anticipated “Rogue One: A Star Wars story” will be released. The film takes place before the events of “Star Wars: A New Hope” and fills in a story gap on how the Death Star plans were stolen by the rebel alliance, which was referenced in the opening crawl of episode four.

Although the film is not a numbered entry into the “Star Wars” saga, it will certainly still be an interesting watch and has fans very excited. The official trailer on YouTube has over 27 million views and the teaser trailer has over 40 million views. The trailers feature new characters like Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones), Captain Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) and his robot companion K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk), Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker), Baze Malbus (played by Jiang Wen) and Chirrut Imwe (played by Donnie Yen). The trailer also shows old characters will be back in action such as Senator Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and last but certainly not least, Darth Vader.

“Rogue One: a Star Wars Story” will follow the journey of these new characters who have banded together against the common enemy of the Empire and also the formation of the rebel alliance. The film is even supposedly going to climax a mere 10 minutes before the beginning of “Star Wars: A New Hope” which is bound to get young fans interested in the original trilogy.

Apparently, the plot line works. According to cinemablend.com, George Lucas has seen the film and Gareth Edwards, the director of “Rogue One”, reports that he loved it.

“I don’t want to put words into his mouth, but I can honestly say that I can die happy now. He really liked the movie, so it meant a lot,” said Edwards, according to cinemablend.com.

As the original creator of the Star Wars franchise, Lucas’s opinion means the world to fans as he knows what “Star Wars” films should be like. Fans are expecting the film to live up to expectations with the great news that Lucas enjoys the film.

Fans will be in for a treat with the upcoming “Star Wars” film. Finally discovering the story behind the stolen Death Star plans will be exciting for fans and the return of Darth Vader, last seen alive in “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith – Episode III” back in 2005, is bound to have fans on the edge of their seats. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is releasing on Dec. 16, a date everyone should mark on their calendars.
