Here we are
January 31, 2017
If you would have told me in June that Donald Trump would be president I would have laughed in your face. I would have told you that there is no way that a sexist, immature bigot could lead this country. I probably did say these things to you. But here we are.
All the polls were wrong. All the analysts told their viewers that there was a slim to none chance of Trump being president. Democrats were preparing to pop champagne over Hillary Clinton’s dominant victory. But here we are.
Here we are. Two weeks into Trump’s presidency and it turned out the way we all knew it would. Violence broke out on both ends of the political spectrum. Trump supporters beat up muslims and people with nontraditional sexual orientation and chanted “Build the Wall!” Those who opposed Trump’s outlandish ideas protested the streets of all states and a handful of countries around the globe. We are in a state of turmoil.
Trying to make his first 100 days in office memorable, Trump has signed unpopular executive orders. After months of protest at Standing Rock, Trump has ordered that the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline must continue. The Badlands Park Twitter page spoke out against Trump’s decision. They offered the public facts about what this pipeline would do to the environment. Trump, being short-tempered and caring more about money than he does the environment, ordered a Gag Rule which prohibits agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency from speaking to the media or public about different environmental issues.
One of his promises in the campaign was he would build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. However, Mexico’s president Enrique Peña Nieto has repeatedly said he will not pay for the wall. After petty Twitter fights, Trump has said that the U.S. will pay for the 14 billion dollar wall and will be later reimbursed by Mexico. Take note San Diego. Build a new stadium for my Chargers and make Mexico reimburse you. It is a fantastic idea.
But probably the worst executive order of all time is his ban on Muslims. Trump has banned immigrants from entering the country from a handful of countries in the Middle East, those immigrants being primarily Muslim. Along with being extremely racist and unconstitutional, Trump made it so his ban did not include those countries he did business with, which is an extreme conflict of interest. Again, Trump and his actions have sparked protests across the country, most of them happening in airports. Attorney general Sally Yates came out and said she was not sure the ban was unconstitutional and therefore could not support it. So of course Trump fired her.
With no acting attorney general, the country continues to sink deeper and deeper into a turmoil abyss. A man who should have never been president keeps on screwing over the country one day at a time. I would say to impeach him, but Vice President Mike Pence is an even worse human being (Yes, it is possible.) Do not listen to what the Republicans have to say about your protesting. Keep on keepin on. We can not let this ugly man, inside and out, continue to make everyone’s life worse just because he is racist, sexist, ignorant and unfit to run a country. I promise you that I could have kept going with adjectives but I do not want to make my adviser upset with foul language.
On Nov. 8 2016, I was shocked to receive news that Trump would be the next president. But here I am. Here I am speaking out against his ways and resisting the changes he wants to make. This is our country, not his. Do not be afraid to protest, and always remember that love will always trump hate.
