LHS Juniors receive the opportunity of a lifetime

This week the LHS student council juniors are receiving an opportunity of a lifetime. They will be traveling to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. Every year the student council Juniors have the option to travel to D.C and take part in a LEAD conference, where kids from all over the nation come to collaborate about student council. Juniors, Jack Fehrs, Oliver Lockwood-Powell, Emily Whitney, Lucy Dekkenga, Ann Madson, Meredith Benson, Jack Meyers, Riley Fawcett and Sam Mendel, will spend four days in the capital. Along with going to the LEAD conference, they will also be attending a NBA Wizards game and sightseeing.

“I’m excited to see Marcin Gortat send some shots back and to catch some bodies against the Lakers,” said Sam Mendel, one of the student council members traveling to D.C.

When traveling to a big city one of the most worrisome thing to tourists is using public transportation for the first time. However, this year’s juniors are not worried about it.

“No I’m not worried about traveling in a big city because I have been to San Diego and Orlando before, and I imagine that traveling is pretty much the same,” said Riley Fawcett.

Mendel had similar feelings towards the transportation situation.

“No, I’m not worried about traveling in D.C. because I’ve been to Chiraq before so I know what it’s like to take the subway and travel in bigger cities,” said Mendel.

After this weekend, these LHS juniors will return with countless stories to tell and memories and experiences that will last their whole life. Spending four days with some of their closest friends will no doubt bring the council closer and will help strengthen bonds that will last for the rest of their high school years.
