On Thursday Jan. 26, the LHS boys basketball team entered their game at home against WHS with redemption in mind. After suffering a tough loss against the rival two weeks ago, they were able to bounce back and play hard.

In the first quarter the action started quickly with both teams showing strict motivation to win. WHS gained their first points off of a steal but followed by a perfect three from Diang Gatluak. Points went back and forth between both teams and WHS created a lead through a series of three pointers. The quarter ended with a much needed 3-pointer from Alex Glanzer at the buzzer making the WHS lead 22-15.

The second quarter began yet again with the first points from WHS. Tradition was kept alive because of the fact that many more fouls were being called on LHS. Interesting. Despite the fishy calls, LHS was able to eliminate the WHS lead through a 3-pointer from Higgason which was followed by a buzzer beater from Christophe Bwanya making the score 34-32 LHS.

With a newfound lead and increased motivation, LHS started out the third quarter strong and aggressive. There seemed to be a common theme of WHS players tripping on their own feet which was also relevant to the game two weeks ago. After scrambles for the ball and some quick WHS shots the LHS lead dwindled down to a few points towards the middle of the third quarter. However, the WHS shots soon switched to LHS as Glanzer and Bwanya hit back to back threes and WHS missed its remaining shots. This ends the third quarter with a great LHS lead.

The final quarter started with some free throws from Glanzer and quick shots from Coulter. Along with a strong offense continuing to hold up in the fourth quarter, LHS upheld a strong defense. Because of this, LHS had many steals and blocks, not allowing many WHS points and not allowing their lead to lessen. WHS soon seemed frantic and hopeless as they began to foul more and more. On the opposite end, LHS was upbeat and ecstatic at the soon-to-be win. After LHS chanted the “I believe” chant, Diang finished off with a fantastic dunk, solidifying the well-deserved and predicted LHS win, 73-63.
