Joel Embiid snagging a rebound in his rookie season

Oliver Lockwood-Powell, Staff Writer

Joel Embiid: The 7’0 250lb center for the Philadelphia 76er’s is making his case for not only Rookie of the Year, but maybe even an all-star. Embiid has turned heads all around the nation by turning his 76er’s team to a playoff hopeful squad. Not only is he improving his team and being the leader of the squad, but his numbers are some we have not seen in awhile from a rookie. Embiid is averaging 19.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG. Not only is he making such a big impact in his rookie season, but he is also only doing it in a 28 minute restriction due to his injuries that have kept him out of the NBA his first two legitimate years.

Malcolm Brogdon: Brogdon is the starting point guard for the highly regarded NBA team, the Milwaukee Bucks. Brogdon came into the season as one of the most athletic players in the 2016 NBA draft and has been an underdog after getting drafted in the second round, pick number 36. The numbers he is putting up are 9.2 PPG and 4.1 APG. For being a rookie and starting for an elite team in the Eastern conference, he sure is making a case for himself to be Rookie of the Year.

Dario Saric: Saric is a teammate of Embiid and right along side each other, they work perfectly together.  The 6’10 small forward is putting up 9.6 PPG and 5.9 RPG while sharing the limelight with his All-Star teammate Joel Embiid. Saric, as well as Embiid, was not drafted this year but it is the first year they have actually played competitively in the NBA. During his time off in between getting drafted and his rookie season, Saric was playing like a king over seas and making a name for the 76er’s without even playing for them.

Buddy Hield: Hield came into the NBA widely known as one of the best shooters to ever come out of college basketball in the history of the sport. The comparisons to Steph Curry, JJ Redick and others had him as one of the most hyped up prospects in the game. The rookie for the New Orleans Pelicans is not exactly living up to the hype averaging just 8.8 PPG and 2.8 RPG. However, he is making in impact in the NBA by getting his name mixed in for the Rookie of the Year award for the 2016-2017 NBA season.
Pascal Siakam: Siakam is a 6’9 230 lb monster that makes the most of his minutes. The rookie is only averaging 6 PPG and 4.5 RPG, but is only playing for about 17.5 minutes per game. The most intriguing part of his game is his selection of shots. Siakam only shoots when he is in the paint and is one of very few people in the NBA to never shoot a three-point shot this season. Not only is his impact in the little minutes he gets on the court making a name for himself, but also that he is contributing to one of the best teams in the NBA, the Toronto Raptors.
