The LHS Plague

Riley Rasmussen, Staff Writer

Recently at LHS, sickness has been rampant. Anyone sitting in class will be able to hear the sickness in student’s voices and stifling of their noses. Coughs, sneezes and stifling surround LHS students right now.

Illnesses like Influenza A, stomach bug and different viruses have been going around. Students also have been getting a hold of the common cough and cold during this season. LHS’s school nurse, Laura Parish, sends out emails to the LHS staff frequently to make sure that they are aware of the germs and bacteria around in classrooms and in the hallways. Different teachers at LHS have been aware of the sickness and have been keeping their classrooms in shape to make sure the sickness does not keep spreading.

Being sick has also affected student’s schoolwork. With all the school days that have been missed, it has been hard for some students to keep up and make up work .

“Once I started to feel better it was a lot more stressful,” said LHS sophomore LaRen Holtman. “I had a ton of work to make up and two weeks later I am still trying to make up work. It was also hard because since it was at the beginning of the semester I missed a lot of new concepts that were taught.”

Each day at LHS, students are going home and leaving school early because they are not feeling well. Some students stay home too. According to Parish, around 5 to 10 students leave class early and go home each day from school. Parish gives some advice to students and others how to get better and also prevent from getting sick.

Wash your hands with soap and water, drink plenty of water, eat healthy, get enough rest and keep your areas clean,” said Parish.
