“The Mummy” wraps up
February 15, 2017
LHS one act “The Mummy” has it all: comedy, sex and, of course, murder. The LHS theater department debuted the play “The Mummy” to the one act state competition in Aberdeen and received a superior.
The show is directed by Lances DeRoose and stars a myriad of LHS actors. Many LHS English students were given the opportunity to view the play pre-opening during class. The show is immersive and many of the early viewers were surprised by the boundary-pushing nature of the play.
The show follows the production of the movie “The Mummy” and the antics that follow. Though a stark contrast from last year’s one-act “Monarch,” “The Mummy” is, in its own unique manner, a success.
As always, the show goes far beyond the actors and director; many students work tirelessly to create a cohesive set and high production value.
“We were ahead of schedule most of it,” said Jeison Izquierdo, stage manager of the show. “Near the end, a lot of work needed to be done. But we still got it all done on time, on schedule.”
Finishing the set of the one-act plays often proves to be difficult, as LHS does not have the most conducive setup for this niche production.
“The auditorium stage sucks,” said Izquierdo. “We always have to figure out a way to fill up the space. And we have to use special lights.”
The challenges do not end there.
“We have to make everything mobile to take it to Aberdeen,” said Izquierdo. “Which means we have make everything fit on the bus. No trailer.”
The theater company overcame, receiving a superior rating.
