Jax Rosebush and Reddy Weldon are best friends. They both love to play games, they are very energetic, they have big imaginations and they look identical, at least in their minds. Jax is white and his best friend Reddy is black, but to each other, they are exactly the same.

These two boys and their friendship first gained attention when Jax’s mom posted on Facebook that her son wanted to get a haircut so he could look just like his best friend Reddy. He told his mom that he wanted to cut his hair so he and Reddy could look the same and trick all the kids and teachers at school. Little did she know that her post would end up being liked over 140,000 times and shared by 80,000 people.

“It’s total insanity! I just made the post because my kid is hilarious and cute but I never anticipated this,” said Lydia Rosebush in an article by CNN. “It just struck me as funny that Jax doesn’t even notice that Reddy is a different color. When he describes Reddy, he never mentions it.”

Even though a haircut may not seem to be very notable or important, this incident has caught people’s attention and has sparked discussions about tolerance and acceptance, something that is needed in today’s society.

“Jax said he couldn’t wait to go to school on Monday with his hair like Reddy’s so that his teacher and classmates wouldn’t be able to tell them apart,” said Lydia Rosebush. “If this isn’t proof that hate and prejudice is something that is taught, I don’t know what is. The only difference Jax sees in the two of them is their hair. I thought with all the hate in the world today, we could use this lesson from an almost five-year-old.”
