Athlete of the week: Glanzer
March 8, 2017
Junior guard Alex Glanzer is a key piece to the championship hopeful LHS Patriots as they take on the boys basketball state tournament. His quickness, shooting range and ball handling are some of the attributes that make Glanzer such a great player and a leader for the powerhouse LHS squad.
“Alex brings a lot when he steps on the court,” said senior point guard Carson Coulter. “I’m confident in him when he has the ball and more often than not he makes the right decision. He for sure has that leadership trait and he will do great things for the LHS team next year.”
Even as a junior on the team, Glanzer is one of the few on the team that really take on the leadership role. He can do it all, bringing versatility and great defense to one of the most athletic teams in the state. His fast-paced tempo allows the team to strive during fast breaks and get the crowd pumped up with easy layups or dunks translated from his defense.
“Alex is one of the quickest guys we have, so the game just speeds up when he is on the court,” said Coulter. “I would say his best attribute would be his ability to knock down some big shots. He has hit some big game changing shots this season.”
Glanzer’s ability to come up clutch for his team when they need it most has helped them in many aspects this season. In a close game against long-time rival WHS, Glanzer got to the line and sunk some clutch free throws in the last seconds of the game; he promptly went on to look at the bench and the LHS Crazies, point to his arm and yell “I GOT ICE IN MY VEINS.”
“Id say Alex’s best highlight this year so far was when he had a pin block on the other team’s big man, especially because he is only 5’9’’,” said Coulter. “The block was huge and it actually changed the momentum of the game, and we ended up winning.”
Swift crossovers, ecstatic blocks and limitless range are just a few tricks that Glanzer brings to the table this year and will continue to keep in his tool box for his senior season next year. With the state tournament coming up March 16, in Rapid City, Glanzer looks to showcase his skills and bring LHS back to back to back.
