Bomb threats on Jewish community rage through America
March 13, 2017
Every day, there seems to be news of a hate crime, terrorist act or a threat to innocent people of the world. Although there is history that shows what hate towards specific people can turn into, U.S. citizens continue to see different groups of people tormented for their beliefs.
On Sunday, Jewish communities celebrated Purim, which commemorates the defeat of an attempt to kill Jews in ancient Persia. As this holiday approached, so did the hate crimes against it. Multiple synagogues and Jewish organizations around the U.S. received bomb threats. Vandalism and bomb threats from anti-Semitic groups continues to be a problem today.
According to CNN News, bomb threats were made in Indianapolis Jewish Community Center in Indiana, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada and The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center in Milwaukee, WI.
The FBI has researched into the horrific threats and thinks that the calls first started with a single person that then lead to copycats continuing the threats. They also think that the calls could have potentially been made by persons overseas.
The New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, supported the Jewish community by denouncing the threats.
“Like all New Yorkers, I am profoundly disturbed and disgusted by the continued threats against the Jewish community in New York,” said Cuomo in a statement, according to CNN News. “As New Yorkers, we will not be intimidated and we will not stand by silently as some seek to sow hate and division. New York is one family, and an attack on one is an attack on all.”
The FBI is currently continuing to investigate these threats made to innocent Jewish communities and hopes to catch the criminals that have made part in the acts.
