During the 2016-17 school year, Student Council has put on a variety of fundraising events. The organization previously had a volleyball tournament in the fall and with great success decided to hold another. The Leprechaun Slam-A-Thon is a way for friends to gather together, build a team and compete for victory.

It can get quite competitive with everyone striving to get the big “W” and take home the cash. The last volleyball event was such a positive experience many participants wanted to come back for more.

“I decided to participate in the volleyball slam-a-thon event because I previously did it with my tennis team in the spring. It was a blast” said freshman Brita Quello. “It was so awesome to be able to be competitive and have fun all while still trying to win the prize.”

This year, a total of eight teams entered into the competition. With this amount of participants, $80 was pooled together and awarded to the winning team at the end. A stake like this only adds to the excitement and fun.

“These events are important because you are able to meet more fellow Pats, as well as help raise funds for the school,” said Quello. “Events like this bring all the students together, into one student body.”

Good ol’ competition is not only used to decide a champion, but also to bring joy. All willing participants come happy and leave even happier, no matter the results.

“During the spring we were able to make it to the semifinals, but this year we did not do as well,” said Quello. “It was still super fun to be able to be on a team with close friends and compete against others in an exciting environment.”
The Leprechaun Slam-A-Thon will hopefully continue after this year’s outstanding support and bring more people together in a new way.
