Rachel Lindsay was announced as the newest Bachelorette in February on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

After airing 15 seasons, the newest installment of “The Bachelorette” is making history by announcing the first-ever African American lead, Rachel Lindsay. Lindsay, who was on the most recent season of “The Bachelor,” which starred Nick Viall, is ready to start her own journey to find love.

The franchise host Chris Harrison appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in February to make the announcement and he called it the “most dramatic announcement ever.” This time, that statement proved to be true. This reveal was a little different from past seasons, however, because the star of the next cycle is usually announced after the current season has ended, but ABC decided not to stick with that tradition and announced Lindsay while Viall’s season of “The Bachelor” was still going on.

Lindsay’s announcement of becoming the next Bachelorette broke down the race barriers for the franchise, which had experienced controversy in the past regarding its lack of diversity.  As she becomes the first black woman to star on the reality love show, this choice could be seen as a step for minorities in the reality TV world, but also in the world as a whole. The fact that minorities are increasingly becoming included in society is showing how the world is becoming more diverse and inclusive to everyone.

The newest season of “The Bachelorette” is set to premiere on Monday, May 22 on ABC. Lindsay captured the hearts of America and all eyes will be on her as she begins her adventure to find her own fairy tale love.
