An uproar was sparked following a snapchat story that was posted on Serena William’s personal account. The No. 1 women’s tennis player uploaded a photo that featured herself in a swimsuit with tiny baby bump and a caption of “20 weeks.” Pregnancy news is always exciting to hear, but her casual announcement came along with some impressive realizations.

Williams last played in the French Open and won, making it her 23rd Grand Slam title. Not only is this insanely impressive as it is, but she was close to two months pregnant at the time. Following this news, a very large question has been raised. Will she continue to play in the circuit after her pregnancy? Williams has made it clear she has no doubts that she will return shortly after. This seems reasonable considering age has not proven a factor for her talent on the court. However, according to the New York Times, no tennis player in the past has returned after having a child at her age. In the past, Williams has had no problem defying odds. She released her first public statement indicating her and her baby’s future in tennis:

“I can’t wait for you to join the players box next year,” said Williams. “But most importantly, I am so happy to share being number one in the world with you.”
