Drake: the king of the Billboard Music Awards
May 22, 2017
Last night’s Billboard Music Awards was full of emotion. Live performances from Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, The Chainsmokers and other artists went on throughout the three-hour show. There were tributes to Celine Dion and Cher, and remembrances for both Biggie and Chris Cornell. But the talk of the night had to be OVO member Drake and his plethora of awards.
Drake broke the record earlier held by Adele for most awards received in one night. That record now belonging to Drake, is at an astonishing 13. One of the most prestigious awards Drake received would be the Top Artist award where he was up against respected artists such as Adele, Beyonce and Justin Bieber.
When taking the stage for his first acceptance speech, Drizzy managed to settle his beef with rapper Ludacris, shot his shot at Vanessa Hudgens and gave a quick shoutout to his dad starting the “Boy if you don’t stop” meme.
Drake then went on and performed one of his hits from “More Life”. “Gyalchester” was sang from the center of the Bellagio fountains with background sprays of water, flames and fireworks, leaving viewers praising the G.O.A.T of rap music.
After the huge mark he had made on the night, people were buzzing about the great Aubrey Graham. Then, he took the stage once again to accept his award for Top Artist. First, he called out Nicki Minaj as being the “love of his life” making YMCMB fans wonder if there is a deeper relationship between the two. He then pulled out a bottle of Virginia Black whiskey, took a drink, and said “Life is like toilet paper. You’re either on a roll or you’re taking a sh** from an a**h***,” leaving the stage with the crowd smiling and laughing along with legend.
It is clear that Drake was the king of this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Shattering records, settling beef, claiming love and just being a complete bad*** made Drake the talk of this night and the top trend on Twitter.
