Why I respect LeBron James and you should too

LeBron James is playing the best basketball of his life. This playoffs, James is averaging 34.3 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and 7.1 assists per game. A mere point off in each category from his 2008-09 performance with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This, along with a few other things, has caused me to gain an immense amount of respect for James.

It was only this year, especially during these current playoffs, that I seemed to realize that I was watching a legend play. Like I previously stated, James is playing some of the best basketball of his life at 32 years of age and he has lead his team to a 10-1 record in the playoffs as of now, sweeping two teams (the Pacers and Raptors). The reason I find this so admirable and respectable is due to the way the Cavs ended their regular season. They played horribly and no one had enormous expectations for them in the playoffs. However, James showed up to play and they showed what kind of team they really are. I saw James collect a team that seemed to be falling apart and piece them together and go on to sweep two teams.

Another reason for my new found respect for James is his attitude during and after games. Ever since last postseason when Klay Thompson said this (video below)

LeBron James has won all but one postseason game. Thompson awoke the giant with those words. In my mind, James has become a more focused and passionate player in the postseason. Everyone knows when he gets on the court things are going to change. He now performs with an air of confidence about him. He is almost cocky on the floor and knows that he is the best player out there, and he shows it with a simple spin of the ball or turn of the back. (videos below)

James knows he’s the best on the court and he isn’t afraid to show it.

After seeing these two changes in James, I have gained an immense amount of respect for him. I used to think of James as a cry baby, and somewhat overrated, but it was only until I really started to pay attention that I understood who James is. He is the best player in the league and he wants you to know it. He is King.
