All Lives Splatter: The controversy behind it all
September 21, 2017
In recent months, the hashtag ‘BlackLivesMatter’ has been prevalent in every state throughout the U.S. In Charlottesville, NC, people have erupted in protest to African Americans not having equal rights. Although people have different views on the issue, but one South Dakota Republican lawmaker posted a meme that is controversial to some.
Representative Lynne DiSanto posted a meme with the phrase ‘All Lives Splatter’ to her Facebook page causing not only people around the state, but around the country to shake their head in disgust.
After posting the meme claiming it promotes street safety, DiSanto received backlash due to the fact that people were insulted by the meme’s message.
“I perceived it differently,” said DiSanto. “I perceived it as encouraging people to stay out of the street.”
What the meme included was an SUV running over stick figure protesters with the phrases ‘All Lives Splatter’ and ‘Nobody cares about your protest, Keep your a** out of the road.’ The message implied on the meme was that people should not be protesting over the Black Lives Matter movement. This comes over a month after a driver drove through a crowd of protesters at a White Nationalist protest. And as the post blew up with the caption “I think this is a movement we can all support,” DiSanto was not only only out in the public eye, she was also out of a job.
The business DiSanto was working for, Keller Williams Realty Black Hills, had posted on Facebook that she had been let go.
“Due to recent events, Lynne DiSanto is no longer associated with Keller Williams Realty Black Hills,” said a representative of the company.
Even though representative DiSanto political career will stay intact, the damage has already been done. What she has posted on social media will never be erased.
