Lanyards at LHS soon to loom the halls

The 2017/2018 LHS school year has started with a lot of changes, the most recent being the new ID policy going into effect in the next few weeks.
This new policy requires that lanyards and IDs be worn within the school day. This follows a district wide policy that all students must carry their IDs. Though it deals with the safety of the school, Principal Robert Grimm feels it is also a way to honor student’s successes.
“I thought if we selected lanyards based on your level within the building, that it would be more easily distinguishing for students […] I want to be able to recognize the seniors,” said Grimm. “I think that they deserve it.”
A new system means that, soon, the halls of LHS will be full of brightly colored lanyards, color-coded to show off the student’s grade.
“Freshmen will get white lanyards. They haven’t earned any color,” said Grimm. “[Sophomores and juniors] will get either light blue or red, just depending. Seniors get gold lanyards because they’re the gold standard.”
Grimm does not believe this policy will affect students much, and believes that lanyards can be worn in many ways.
“[A lanyard can be] hooked to belt loops, they can tie it around their ankles, tie it around your head as a bandana,” said Grimm. “It’s up to you guys. It should be visible, even if it’s just on your back pack.”
Grimm hopes to continue the success of this policy from his past schools into LHS with his main goals of protecting students and recognizing the seniors for their achievements.
“Being a senior is the best part of your life,” said Grimm. “The seniors deserve to have a level of appreciation within the building.”
