New big three in the West

For the past six seasons, Carmelo Anthony has been the man in New York, playing for the highly coveted New York Knicks. Just recently, on Sunday, Sept. 23, the 11-time All Star was traded to the newly formed “superteam” the Oklahoma City Thunder, in exchange for Turkish Center Enes Kanter, along with SF Doug McDermott and a future second round draft pick.

Last year was one of the most exciting years in basketball history, mainly because Oklahoma City PG Russell Westbrook broke lose and averaged a triple-double throughout the entire season. His MVP campaign was not enough to get him through the first round of the playoffs however.

The additions of Paul George and Carmelo Anthony have made this team a legit candidate to bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy at the end of the year, and eventually end the championship drought for OKC. All three players averaged over 20 PPG, which would put them in a category with two other teams in the league, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors.

Some experts question just how much the move will ultimately help the Thunder. In the trade, the Thunder had to make tough decisions, like giving up a lot of bench help for Anthony. Both Kanter and McDermott both contributed heavily towards the Thunders offensive and defensive success.

Many questions loom on how well the new big three will gel so quickly, but there are no questions about the amount of talent on that roster. With a combined 21 All Star appearances, there is no doubting that there will be various highlight plays and victories for Anthony and company.
