New York style week goes vintage
September 15, 2017
From Sept. 7-14, New York Fashion Week took the world by storm as various designers embraced their newest innovative fashion trends while unveiling their collections to the press and general public.
It was evident that bright colors and statement pieces dominated the runway this past week. With dramatic cuts and colors presented by Alexander Wang, nontraditional use of color allowed for individual expression that was sure to resonate with buyers from across the world.
As well as bright pieces, there were many looks that seemed to give the public ‘deja’ vu as the designers brought back trends from the past decades. William Watson and Vincent Oshin portrayed the 1950s aesthetic in their men´s line, ¨Death to Tennis.” This line includes different jackets and eye-catching designs that will be sure to make a comeback in the upcoming months. Another trend that is being revisited is the bob. This above the shoulder hairstyle is simple as well as showstopping, especially when it is worn in vibrant colors like platinum or purple.
Along with reviving the 1950s vibe, designers also defied runway norms as pregnant model, Maia Ruth Lee, flaunted her baby bump in an open snap-front dress. At eight months pregnant, Lee dominated the catwalk while onlookers watched and admired designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta’s creativity.
From baby bumps to bright colors to bobs, this week of fashion has given designers the opportunity to reminisce on previous styles, while showcasing their new up-and-coming looks as well.
