Fultz out indefinitely: the 76er’s injury curse

Hunter Merkley, Staff Writer

Yesterday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that Markelle Fultz, their first round draft pick would be out until further notice with a shoulder injury. The injury was no surprise as Fultz had been suffering with shoulder soreness since the beginning of the season. Doctors diagnosed him with scapular muscle imbalance. Despite the soreness, doctors say there is no structural damage. After three weeks of rest, doctors will re-evaluate his progress.

The injury seemed to affect his play as he averaged only six points, three rebounds and one assist through four games. The shoulder injury also affected his shot, and he was forced to change his form due to the pain that was caused from his previous one. The new shot was mocked and made fun of by many people and the Internet because of how weird it looked. The change in form did not seem to work as he went nine for 27, or 33 percent from the field and six for 12 from the free throw line. These stats are definitely a step down from Fultz’s college career. During his time at Washington, Fultz averaged 25 points five assists and seven rebounds

Injuries are something that the 76ers fanbase has become used to, with players such as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons both missing their rookie seasons. Hopefully, Fultz’s injury is nothing too serious and he will be back on the court in a few weeks. The 76ers need all the help they can get, as they have struggled during the early parts of this season.
