On Sunday October 8th, the New York Giants suffered a massive loss, WR Odell Beckham Jr. fractured his left ankle while running a slant route. This will most likely sideline him for the rest of the year. This injury will make it very tough for a struggling 1-5 Giants to make a run for the playoffs.

During October 8th’s game the Giants faced off against another struggling team, the previously 0-4 San Diego Chargers. The first quarter went to the Giants, as their defense stepped up forcing a safety. With a 0-9 deficit heading into the 2nd quarter, the Chargers offense stepped up scoring 10 points. This gave the Chargers the lead going into the 2nd half. Both teams came out of the locker room hot. It all came down to the final quarter, the Giants were driving until Beckham had to be carted off the field after an awkward fall. This was a pivotal point in the game and the Giants were up by two, 22-20. After Beckham’s injury, Giants RB Mark Ingram fumbled the ball. This gave the Chargers great field position, and they capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a touchdown with 2:58 left in the game. The Giant’s could not overcome the five point deficit and were defeated for a fifth straight game. This puts them on track to have the worst season start in team history.

Beckham’s injury was one of four suffered by the Giants. The wide receiver core took a massive hit, as all four starters suffered injuries that will keep them off the field for the foreseeable future. With limited players the Giants were forced to bring up practice players in hopes that they will be able to bounce back in this week’s game against the Denver Broncos. They did just that, getting their first win of the season in a 23-10 victory over the Broncos.
