The Astros celebrate after defeating the Dodgers in game seven of the World Series

For the first time in franchise history, the Houston Astros are World Series Champions. In an exhilarating seven games, the Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to three.

Game seven started and ended all in the first two innings. The Astros poured on runs in the first two innings, with two runs in the first and three in the second. Dodgers’ pitcher Yu Darvish was not his usual self in the 1 2/3 innings that he pitched, as he could not seem to get break on his pitches. The five runs the Astros scored in the first two innings were the only runs they scored in the game.

Throughout the game, the Dodgers continuously had base runners, but immediately had their hopes of scoring broken by the Astros’ tough bullpen. Until the sixth inning, the Dodgers were scoreless. The Dodgers only could get one run in their late rally, not enough to get them much closer to victory.

The game would end in a 5-1 Astros victory, with the winning pitcher being Charlie Morton, a starting pitcher who came out of the bullpen to close the game. The Astros were led all series by the series MVP George Springer, who had five home runs, a .379 batting average and seven RBI’s.

Although the season is over, both the Dodgers and Astros will work to get back to the World Series next season. With young cores, both teams will have the chance to get back to baseballs biggest stage next season.
