South Dakota born, Indianapolis Colts kicker, Adam Vinatieri has moved into second place on the all time scoring list in the NFL. Two weeks ago, Vinatieri passed up retired kicker Gary Anderson on the all time scoring list.

Vinatieri, who is 44-years-old, is from Yankton, South Dakota, he graduated from Rapid City Central, and in college he kicked at South Dakota State University. Over his illustrious 22 year career in the NFL, Vinatieri has accumulated 2,447 career points and there are plenty more to come. He has also won four Super Bowl rings, with two of them coming on clutch game winning kicks. Three of his Super Bowl titles came with the New England Patriots, whereas the other Super Bowl victory was with the Colts.

With four points against the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday, it brings Vinatieri just 97 points away from the all-time NFL leader in points, hall of fame kicker Morten Andersen. With the career accomplishments that Vinatieri has on his resume, he too is expected to be inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame.

Vinatieri has said that he will not be retiring after this season, for sure. With one season, if not more ahead, Vinatieri will look to pass Andersen’s record and be alone atop of the all time NFL scoring list.

When one thinks of the accomplishments that people from South Dakota have accumulated, Vinatieri’s achievements may not come to mind, but the feats that he has reached over his career are ones to be celebrated.
