Malala Yousafzai once said, “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” The young activist, who believes in the power of education, is getting help from a different source than the ones she cites in her famous quote.

Apple, the technology company that needs no introduction, has partnered with 20 year-old Yousafzai and her nonprofit, Malala Fund. The dynamic duo of a tech giant and an activist has set out with an initial goal to provide 100,000 girls with a secondary education in developing countries around Latin America and in India. With over 100 million girls not recieving any form of education, the work of Malala Fund is pressing and Apple is volunteering to help.

“We believe that education is a great equalizing force and we share Malala Fund’s commitment to give every girl an opportunity to go to school,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, in a statement from a press release on the Apple website.

The support for equality in education and girls across the world is a new move in the business’s repetoire of charitable acts. The corporation will assist in the aspects of “technology, curriculum and research into policy changes needed to help girls everywhere attend school and complete their education,” according to the Apple press release.

“Through both their innovations and philanthropy, Apple has helped educate and empower people around the world,” said Yousafzai in the Apple press release. “I am grateful that Apple knows the value of investing in girls and is joining Malala Fund in the fight to ensure all girls can learn and lead without fear.”
