Both Jacks teams win Summit League Tournament
March 8, 2018
In an all South Dakota final at the Summit League Tournament, the SDSU Jackrabbits swept the tournament with wins over the USD Coyotes in both the men’s and women’s finals. With these Summit League Tournament wins, the Jacks gain automatic bids into the men’s and women’s NCAA Tournaments.
In the early game Tuesday afternoon, the SDSU womens basketball team defeated the Coyotes by a score of 65-50 to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. The Jacks were led by junior guard, Macy Miller, who scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. This performance by Miller greatly helped the Jacks to reclaim the Summit League title after the Western Illinois Leathernecks were atop the podium the previous season.
In the night game, the SDSU mens basketball team claimed the men’s Summit League title for a third straight season. Led by David Jenkins Jr. with 29 points and an addition of 25 points and 11 rebounds from junior standout Mike Daum (his 21st double-double of the season), the Jacks were able to cruise to a 97-87 victory over the Matt Mooney led Coyotes.
As the two teams wait to see who they’ll face and where they’ll play, Jacks fans will be sure to make it out to support. The SDSU faithful greatly helped to propel both the women and men to victory, as throughout the tournament, the majority of the fans at the Denny Sanford Premier Center were Jacks fans.
Fans will wait to see if the SDSU mens basketball team will be able to get an upset in the big dance and see if the women will be able to go on a run in the women’s tournament. Only time will tell.
