2018 National Spanish Exam
April 17, 2018
On April 16, many Spanish III as well as Spanish immersion students took the National Spanish Exam. This is an exam that students around the U.S. can take as a way to measure their Spanish ability. Through this exam, students are able to see where they rank in comparison to students across the country.
This test was optional, so only a select number of students decided to take it. Those who did took two hours out of their day to take the exam.
“I decided to take the exam because I wanted to know how I matched up against the national standards and other students from around the country,” said Spanish III student, Max Martin. “Plus, I wanted a new challenge; just a little something to change up my routine a little bit.”
After taking this exam, LHS students were able to reflect and see what they need to improve in terms of their Spanish studies.
“The most challenging part of the test was by far the vocabulary part,” said Martin. “This is because the test is based on national standards, not our local standards. Our books do not follow these standards either, so I didn’t know a lot of that section.”
This is the first year that Spanish students at LHS have taken this particular exam and although it was an immense challenge, it helped students to come out of their comfort zone while simultaneously building their Spanish vocabulary and skill.
