When you think of April, snow does not come to mind. However, that is just what this April in the Midwest has consisted of and as a result, spring sports have suffered. This track season, meets have been canceled left and right.

As a result of this, there are only three qualifying meets left, leaving slim time for runners and field athletes to achieve qualifying times and measurements in field events. The lack of meets are generating stress for runners, that adds to the already busy schedules of athletes.

Tennis has also experienced some cancellations, with the JV matches against WHS being affected by snow. However, the varsity team was able to travel to Watertown and play on the indoor courts there.
“The cancellations have been both blessing and a curse,” said Ryan Rasmusson. “On the upside of things, one Star (Sam Dobbs), really lucked out Tuesday morning. He was able to avoid playing Kevin Shan who was sure to defeat one star hurting his seeding at state. On the downside of things, superior tennis players such as myself, have not been allowed the chance to really prove themselves yet this season. Thanks Obama.”

Girls golf and baseball have been practicing inside, bearing down and waiting the weather out.

Some spring sports teams have been luckier than others, although the inclement weather has affected everyone. Cancellations and postponements have plagued this spring athletic season, and unfortunately, it does not appear to be letting up, with snow in the forecast this coming Saturday.
