There is a new festival coming to Sioux Falls during the summer of 2018. The Sufu Create Fest will include students from all over and bring never before seen talent to the stage.

Many Sioux Falls students are familiar with the annual summer festivities such as Jazz Fest and the Sioux Empire Fair. Although these events are quite popular for high school students, LHS alumni Cole Crissman and Tanner Hauck decided to take these summer activities to the next level and create their own festival, called the Sufu Create Fest. Crissman and Hauck will be running the event with the help of a few other college students and are hoping to create a new way for high school and college students to display their creative works.

“Shortly after arriving at college, Cole and I discovered that our respective college towns granted way more opportunities for young people to show off their creative abilities,” said Hauck. “We thought this was something that we could improve back in Sioux Falls and the idea was birthed.”

The Sufu Create Fest is aiming to recognize some potential creators, entrepreneurs and leaders of the future in a very unique way. Crissman and Hauck are hoping to kick off their festival this summer and expect the event to have a big future. They are wanting to establish it as an annual event for bringing brand new talent to the area.

“Right now, we are looking at early June,” said Hauck. “We haven’t locked on a location yet. Ideally we’d be able to have it outside but it all depends on pricing, availability and our projected turnout.”

Hauck and Crissman are looking for any student ready to display their artistic and creative talents to their fellow students and the people of Sioux Falls. They believe it is time for students to step out and show the growing city what they have in store for the future.

“We are looking for participants mainly through the word of mouth,” said Hauck. “Of course we know a few people from our grade and the bordering grades, but we are largely depending on social media and word of mouth.”

Hauck and Crissman are incredibly excited to recruit participants for the festival. They are hoping that the vision they have and the opportunity to show off one’s work is enough to get students to participate. With a few surprises up their sleeve for potential participants, they are hoping for a large turnout and a successful summer festival.
