Winter weather causes BVHS to reschedule prom

With this past weekend’s snow storm, BVHS had a twisted turn of events. Their prom was rescheduled twice, leaving students stressed and unimpressed with the last minute decisions.

Originally, BVHS’ prom was scheduled to be on Saturday, April 14 at the El Riad Shrine in downtown Sioux Falls. Because of the weather coming in, the students were informed that the dance was to be rescheduled to Friday instead. This drastic change let alone, stressed students out.

“When I first heard about it, it was like an instant stress,” said Peyton Roesch, a senior at BVHS. “I had no idea if I could move all my appointments up. I was scared about flowers, hair, makeup and my date’s tux. Everything that was planned seemed to just fly out the window.”

On Friday morning, the weather was still not looking good, causing the faculty and staff to reschedule prom once again. This sudden change really made students even more upset.

“When I found out it was moved to Sunday, I had a breakdown (typical girl),” said Roesch. “My first thought was how nothing is open Sunday.”

For the girls especially, they had to quickly figure out how they were now going to do their hair and makeup since many salons are not open on Sundays.

“Love that Look in Brandon was gracious enough to open its doors the only day they are closed to do all the girls hair that were originally scheduled for Saturday,” said Roesch.

Along with the sudden rush to find new appointments, these groups had to find a new place to eat and for some after prom plans.

“We had to completely redo dinner plans to something not as fancy and our bus that rented would move to Sunday,” said Roesch. “Everything that we were supposed to do after prom did not work since it was a school night. It seemed like nothing was going to work out.”

Although many of the students were enraged by the decisions, it was important that they kept an open mind about it all because after all it was their last dance.

“Surprisingly, after everything, prom was so much fun,” said Roesch. “I kind of just let it go and went with the flow after it got switched to Sunday. It was very stressful, but in the end, it was pretty fun. Over half the seniors didn’t go to school the next day, so it was pretty good night.”

Prom is already a memorable high school event that seniors get to hold, but this particular situation is one that will these students will never forget.
