13 Reasons Why – New season

Following the popularity of the Netflix Original “13 Reasons Why” when it was released last year, fans are anticipating the second season which has been released on Netflix today, (May 18). Many people are puzzled about what the new storyline will be, considering the first season ended with no more tapes and the main character Hannah Baker’s death.

Known as one of the most recently controversial shows, the next season will likely be as well, considering the dark topics in which it discusses such as sexual assault, substance abuse and most prominently, suicide. The fact that it is a show mainly for teens is surprising to some because of these risky subjects.

One of the aspects of the newest season is the trial involving the court case that Baker’s parents brought against the school. Season two will also showcase the grief and obstacles that Baker’s family endures following her suicide.

“I’m excited for the second season to come out. I think it’ll reveal lots of hidden hints that were incorporated in the last few episodes. I also hope that other events are clarified because the ending was left on a cliff hanger,” said LHS senior Mariah Dokken.

Another theory on the story of the second season includes other perspectives coming from the 12 people that were featured on the tapes that Hannah left behind. Although viewers got to witness Hannah’s editions of the story, different angles will be seen.

While talking to an audience in New York, showrunner Brian Yorkey said “I think season two will see us look at a lot of the events that we think we know how they went down and maybe learn they’re more complicated than first we thought, and that Hannah herself is even more complicated than we saw in season one.”
