The anticipation is finally over. After many years of downtown Sioux Falls not having an ice cream shop, Parlour Ice Cream House opened their doors on May 3, ending the downtown ice cream dry spell.

Parlour Ice Cream House is a new joint downtown, located on the first floor of Washington Square, across from the Washington Pavillion. Some may recognize the name CH Patisserie, because of their wonderful pastries and desserts. The owners of CH Patisserie expanded their business by opening the shop.

The opening date is not only a perfect time for customers as the summer season is around the corner, but it was also a very special time for the owners, Chris and Caryn Hamner. May 3 was when they opened CH Patisserie five years ago.

The ice cream offered is much different than the common Dairy Queen or B&G Milkyway ice cream. There is not only a variety between ice cream, gelato and sorbet, but there is also a large variety of flavors, each carefully created with meaning by Hamner.

“For our opening, virtually every ice cream flavor we have relates emotionally to me in some journey in my life,” he said. “Some are specific places or people, and some are emotions I have that I could put a name to,” said siouxfalls.business.com.

Currently, there are 18 set flavors that can be served in a dish or homemade waffle cone, and there are more in the making as Hamner will be rotating the flavors often.

There are some basic flavors like vanilla and chocolate and there are also some more unique flavors, such as salted caramel, vanilla bean with brownie bites or strawberry sorbet.

Although the ice cream is delicious, it is a little on the spendy side. Prices range anywhere from four to ten dollars, depending on the number of scoops. However, after learning about the time spent creating each flavor and making it fresh each day, it was worth the money. The cute atmosphere and nice environment also helped too. There is great seating for both inside and outside the Parlour, and the workers were very friendly.
