Anticipation is over, Disney+ is here
November 15, 2019
If you grew up in the early 2000s, your childhood probably consisted of silly bands, boy bands and Disney shows. With Disney’s new launch of its streaming service, Disney+, watching the shows that you grew up with couldn’t be easier.
Disney first brought the anticipated service to public attention in early November. of 2018. A year later, over 10 million people subscribed in the first few days. It took HBO nearly 3 years to reach half of that number, according to Cnet.
With old and new content combined, Disney+ offers nearly 500 movies along with 7,500 episodes, which gives viewers a limitless choice on their favorite Disney shows. Disney+ provides shows and movies from Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and even The Simpsons, just to name a few. Disney will still add content as they move forward, including new episodes of the Mandalorian. However, you won’t be able to find movies like Coco, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther until later this year.
Price-wise, Disney+ is cheap and affordable at $7 a month, compared to its contenders, like Netflix, which starts at $9 a month but can range up to $12. You can even get the Disney+ bundle for $12 a month, which also includes ESPN+ and Hulu. With Verizon, if you have the 5G unlimited wireless, Fios home internet or 4G LTE plans, you get a year of Disney+ for free. CEO Bob Iger did suggest the price could rise as the service grows, which also happened to Netflix as its service grew.
If Disney+ does not sound like your cup of tea quite yet, you can wait a few months until new content is added. Disney wants to keep its family-friendly approach so they will not add any R rated content. However, Disney+ still offers content for all ages and most everyone can find something they enjoy to watch.
